I have to warn you – this is, in fact, a guide. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let’s get started.

A few years ago, I chose to restart my life. What this meant for me was putting behind a career I had spent four years building and starting on a new path. Side note: I do not recommend doing that 100%. Always draw out transferrable skills that can be useful in your new career.

Anyway, I started out as a newbie in my new career and in no time, I started to feel the pressure. I had built myself up to mid-level prior to this and it was tough starting out from entry-level again. Everyone seemed more experienced than I was and of course, esteem issues started to set in.

The story gets brighter. I re-learnt how to learn. I accepted that while my knowledge base was that of a beginner, my skill set definitely was not. One of the first things I did was to connect how my existing skills could help me gain the knowledge I needed to succeed. Interesting enough, I have gone on to develop into a sub-set of my second career, arguably my third career and it is going quite well.

This post was birthed due to the current global job security crises. I understand the need to re-invent one’s self to fit the current realities and I hope my story helps encourage someone to stay above water.
